The Fir Tree

It´s near to christmas now, and I´ll take the opportunity to post the wonderful fairytail The Fir Tree from Hans Christian Andersen. I know it since I was a child, and I´m glad I found the illustration I used to look at.
Make yourself a mug of coffee, grab a biscuit and let´s get soppy together, it´s so much wisdom in this piece of literature.

London - Northern Heights Parkland Walk, Finsbury Park, Haringey

After two days cold and rain, the sun came out. I decided to walk the Northern Heights Parkland Walk from Alexandra Palace to Finsbury Park. This former railway track was built in order to serve Alexandra Palace, but missed joining the London's Underground in the Second World War.
This day started with sun and starlings were singing, feel invited to come with me for a walk!

Here is the link to the friends of the Parkland Walk.

London - Islington, Chapel Market, Kings Cross

Another sunny day, took the bus some stations to Islington.

Central London

Nice and sunny monday today, with 91 bus down to the central parts of London.

London - Alexandra Palace, Crouch End, Hornsey

At least, here are some pictures from the region where I'm staying in London. Unfortunately there is a lack of representative landmarks.
So let us take Alexandra Palace at first, then go right down into Crouch End and it's farmer's market, and back to Hornsey.

Saint Lucy's Day

The 13th of december is a day in Sweden for celebrating Sankta Lucia. The youth is wearing white long dresses, some girls are Lucia, they are carrying a wreath with light on the head. Early in the morning they go singing and serving breakfast, for example Lussebullar, for their parents and friends. This celebration is known since 1780. About hundred years earlier, the day before Lucia was known as the shortest day of the year.

Jacques Tati - Monsieur Hulot - Pt1

One of my favourite movies is "Les Vacances de M. Hulot" of Jacques Tati, he is also acting M. Hulot.
A bunch of european are making holidays in a french holiday resort by the sea. M. Hulot is clumsy but of good nature, causing mishaps everywhere he appears.
What I love about this movie is the way Jacques Tati pictures the humans, carefully watching their behaviour does he always remain gentle when presenting them to the viewer.
I want to show you some of the videos I found on the net. I tried to put them into their chronological order.
Have fun :)

Golden - The Harvest Of Life

It was a sunny sunday morning, a wonderful day for taking pics in the nearby allotments.
As old people can be beautiful and shiny in their wisdom, the nature is gleaming golden in times of autumn.
I dedicate this post to my old and very dear friend in Nottingham :)

Being part of The-Beatles-Mania Pt4 - The Rutles

Lately a whole evening on tv was dedicated to The Beatles. It was the first time I heard about  The Rutles, a band making parodies of The Beatles. Their music was great :) Here is their movie "All You Need Is Cash".

Check out the webpage of Neil Innes.

It´s time for some music again. I made this compilation round about 15 years ago, but I think, it´s still nice. Relax and enjoy!

Autumn

Mostly I´m not very fond of autumn, but this day turned out to be beautiful. It has been freezing the last two nights, so the leaves on the trees are showing their brightest colours. As we had to put back our clocks one hour today, I didn´t meet many people as I did my tour on the bicycle. The ride took me through the Bürgerpark and along the Wümme on the dikes through Blockland.
Look at this, it was amazing! :)

Moody Blues - Forever Autumn

Being part of The-Beatles-Mania Pt3 - Covers

I heard about an album with the worst covers of The Beatles, so I started to look where to find them. At last I found this link with some very fine pieces of covers. They are sung by Telly Savalas, Sean Connery, Tiny Tim, and others. Don´t forget to check out the comments!
There I also found La Banda Plástica De Tepetlixpa, somehow very nice, aren´t they? :)

Eric´s story

Rubens - old man
The story Eric told me accompanied me on my journey, so I want to tell you the story he kindly shared with me.
It was sunny on the day Okka, Harry and I arrived at Felixstowe. The street was steep, and at the top, we had to separate because of our destinations.
As we hugged, an old man watched us and fell over. So we went to him, washed the wound on his knee and gave him one of my plasters.
And as we sat on the street, he asked Okka and I where we were from, and he was reminded of his life story, which he started to tell us.

The simple life of Olde England :)

Like Anonymous lately said, it is some kind of a time travel when going on holiday to England :)
For example the flushing of toilets.
What?
Yes, I want to talk about the situation of the english toilets, so, let´s pop in to the ladies.

Isle of Wight

I wasn't really sure where to go after Beer, but my dear friend Okka who I met in Harwich in the beginning of my journey, recommended Isle of Wight to me, so that Island became my aim. Somehow I don't have the urge to go on drifting around in England any longer, so I stayed on the Isle of Wight for one and a half weeks - never stayed longer at any other place :) And I had luck with the weather, most of the days turned out to be sunny. I pitched up my tent on a camp site on the west coast, in Freshwater, from where I made long walks along the island.
My dear friends be well prepared for a big post :)
And watch webcam here :)

Seaton Tramway

As I arrived at Seaton, I had the opportunity to take the Seaton Tramway to Colyton :)

Autumn equinox

I have already seen it since some weeks. But it has definitely become autumn in Olde England. On saturday, 22. September, at 16:49, was the autumn equinox. A lot of the flowers are gone, the colours of nature are changing and the leaves are falling. I have started to pick blackberries on my way, never seen so many before :) The sun is down at 7 o'clock, immediately it's getting cold, I can watch white clouds when catching breath, and my sleeping bag is far to thin for this time of the year. It's time to go back to Germany.

Thursday 6 September 2012

Beer

Beer, oh yes, a lovely name, isn't it? Even if I appreciate the english cider, a lovely name for a sweet village. I'm staying here already the second day/night. Beer has a beach full of pebbles, gulls, beach huts, equipment of the fishermen, boats, and deckchairs. So, sorry again, here's a post with all these stuff :) But probably the post will grow later on, with other things. The weather is sunny and warm, and I can take walks along the coast path, either to the left, to Seaton, where I at least found this library with a computer, or to the right.

Donkey Sanctuary

Finally, I reached it, the Donkey Sanctuary. You can watch them on webcam here. I had a nice day cuddling a lot of these funny fellows - I even got bitten! For sure it was because the deep affection she felt for me :)

Sidmouth

In Sidmouth is the beginning of the Jurassic Coast. So I asked one of the couples in the beach huts if they would keep an eye on my bike. And as they did I made a long walk on the beautiful red beach of Sidmouth.

Exmouth

I can't stay too long because I want to reach the ferry from Starcross to Exmouth. And as always, right in time for the last one :) You can watch Exmouth from this webcam.

Teignmouth

The first town at the sea after Dartmoor is busy Teignmouth. Love to see sweet beach huts and boats again :)

Ashburton

Ever heard of Ashburton? Me neither. But I actually fell in love with the colours of this first biggest town after rolling down from Dartmoor.
